Course Description

 

This course will develop the knowledge and skills that enable students to communicate ideas, feelings and beliefs through the artistic medium of film and video. Through the critical analysis process, students will evaluate the vision of important Canadian and international directors, filmmakers and artists. Students will use the creative process to create films within a personal, contemporary, historical, and cultural context.

OVERALL EXPECTATIONS
By the end of this course, students will:
A1. The Creative Process: apply the creative process to create integrated artworks/productions, individually and/or collaboratively;

A3. Tools, Techniques, and Technologies: use a variety of tools, techniques, and technologies to create integrated art works/productions that communicate specific messages and demonstrate creativity;

B1. The Critical Analysis Process: demonstrate an understanding of the critical analysis process by applying it to study works from various arts disciplines as well as integrated art works/productions;

B2. The Function of the Arts in Society: explain and assess the functions and impact of the arts in past and present societies;

B3. The Arts and Personal Development: demonstrate an understanding of the interrelationship
between the arts and personal development, including their own personal development;

B4. Connections Beyond the Classroom: demonstrate an understanding of and apply the types of skills developed through creating, presenting, and analysing art works, including integrated art works/productions, and describe various opportunities to pursue artistic endeavours outside the classroom.

PLAGIARISM

LATE ASSIGNMENTS

Students will be given an opportunity to negotiate due dates based on other course assignments, to receive formative assistance in completing assignments, and time-management assistance. Students will remain after class time to complete assignments. Assignments which are not in time to be marked by the return date will receive a 0. Repeated lates will necessitate parent-student conferences.

MISSED WORK

 

ABSENCES

See “School Policy of Attendance”- If a student misses a test, assignment for any other evaluation; it is the responsibility of the student to submit documentation and a mutual resolution will be determined.  In the event that the student does not submit a documentation a “zero” grade will be given

HOMEWORK

Homework is assigned to review and complete class work: average 2 hours/week.

Major Assignments when assigned will substitute for regular homework.

Students will receive a bi-weekly progress report for parental review & signature

EXTRA HELP

A buddy-system is established for peer assistance. Pre-school assistance is provided each morning

REPORTING DATES

Within the first quarter of the term, an early warning letter will be sent home for students who are risk of failure; formal reporting at the midterm and at the end of semester. 

Students will be provided confidential confirmation of their progress, by direct means of Markbook.
